KARLA DUARTE

BIOGRAPHY

Karla Duarte, M.A. CPE is a San Diego-based Expressive Arts Therapist with roots in the US/Mexican border of Tijuana. Karla's passion is film and she uses her lens to focus on issues affecting women. She holds a deep appreciation for film analysis, poetic narratives and the symbolic use of sound in films. 

 

Karla's career in Expressive Arts, Mental Health, and Spiritual Care has granted her the opportunity to witness the power of contemplative practices such as deep listening, sound awareness, feeling-body awareness, film as therapy, and poetry. 

 

Karla's academic background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, Analysis and Criticism, a Master of Arts in Expressive Arts Therapy with a specialization in film as therapy. Currently, she is pursuing a Theological Master's degree to become a Board Certified Clinical Chaplain and integrate Spiritual Care methodologies in her practice.
