KARLA DUARTE
BIOGRAPHY
Karla is a San Diego-based filmmaker, creative content producer, and Expressive Arts Therapist with roots in the US/Mexican border of Tijuana. Awarded with both national and local filmmaking grants to incite dialogue about social change including the Latino Public Broadcasting Digital Media Public Fund, YAB State Farm®, Boys and Girls Foundation, Gould Foundation, and private funding from 2010-2017. Karla focuses on issues affecting women from a contemplative lens and poetic narratives.
Her academic background includes a B.A. Art History, Analysis and Criticism, and a M.A. Expressive Arts Therapy with a specialization in film as therapy. She holds a deep appreciation for film analysis and the symbolic use of music in films.
