EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPY

The International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA) defines Expressive Arts Therapy as a combination of "the visual arts, movement, drama, music, writing and other creative processes to foster deep personal growth and community development. By integrating the arts processes and allowing one to flow into another, we gain access to our inner resources for healing, clarity, illumination and creativity."

BENEFITS

IMG_1132.PNG

Expressive Arts Therapy is a process of discovering ourselves through any art form that comes from an emotional depth.

Embark on a journey of self-expression and self-discovery, and connect with your intuitive self, feeling-body, and inner-strength. Experience the joy of movement and the mind-body connection.

Self-discovery is an essential coping skill that helps you understand your emotions and triggers, enabling you to develop more effective strategies for handling difficult situations and building resilience. Through deep listening and self-discovery, you can identify your strengths and weaknesses, which allows you to face challenges with greater empathy, awareness and adaptability.

My daughter has been working with Karla for a few months now, and the progress has been truly remarkable. Victoria always looks forward to her one hour sessions she comes out eager to show me her new dance moves, share her drawings, or talk about how she’s feeling.

I’ll admit, I was skeptical at first. I wondered how coloring and dancing could possibly help with her anxiety, behavior challenges, or even improve our communication. But very quickly, my skepticism disappeared. I noticed almost immediately that Victoria was using the tools Karla taught her to manage her emotions more effectively.

There was a brief period when my schedule got hectic and we had to miss a few sessions. Almost instantly, I received messages from her teachers asking, “Is she still doing her therapy?” The difference wasn’t just noticeable at home it was showing up at school and in her extracurricular activities, too.

I truly appreciate how accommodating Karla has been with our busy lives. She’s offered in person sessions, Zoom meetings, and even brief 10-minute checkins when needed. Her flexibility and dedication have made a real difference in both Victoria’s life and mine.
